Birmingham on a Budget: 3 Free Ways to Entertain Your Kids

Birmingham is a historic and gorgeous city that’s gone through a lot of changes and growth in its time.  From the amazing architecture to the beautiful greenery this city seems to be full of: you’ll love every moment you’re here.

These are three awesome ways to check out Birmingham with your children without having to take out your wallet.

Check Out the Fantastic Art

Art is something that speaks to all of us, and if you need a break from looking at Birmingham houses for sale, it’s no secret that you’ll find something amazing in the many galleries here.  From sculptures to over 24,000 paintings, incredible photography, drawings, prints, and so much more, you’ll never run out of things to see despite this being completely free.

Enjoy the Gorgeous Gardens and Parks

There’s nothing as fantastic as the free-to-visit gardens and parks in Birmingham.  Known as Alabama’s largest living museum, with over 10,000 plants that call it home- the Birmingham Botanical Gardens are a feast for the eyes and mind as you look over endless greenery.

Your kids will love all of the nature paths and trails, and you’ll love the countless picnic benches and spots where you can stop and have lunch with your kids.  This is an amazing space to explore, and although it’s free, it doesn’t feel like it!

Play in Buck Creek!

If you’re not from the area, you might be amazed by Buck Creek!  This fantastic swimming and fun area runs parallel to the railroad and offers a refreshing space to enjoy playing in fresh water and checking out the local dam.  The beautiful waterfall effect the dam has makes it feel almost magical as you take in the scenic views.  Although this is a summer-only activity, it’s a great way for your children to use up their extra energy and get the most out of their visit.

This is completely free, just outside of a local park, and is an awesome place to meet locals, have fun in the sun, and keep active all at the same time.  Just remember to smear on some sunscreen and keep hydrated!

What to Pack for Birmingham

Birmingham is as southern as you can get, with its delicious food and its hot as you can get summers.  The thick humidity, and hot temperatures, make it so that you need to dress light and wear fabrics that will allow your skin to breathe.  You should also make sure to pack a refillable water bottle so you can keep hydrated and plenty of sunscreen and insect repellent to keep your skin healthy.  If you’re traveling for work, make sure to pack lots of games or fun for your kids while you’re in meetings; otherwise, enjoy your time in town!

Birmingham Will Blow You Away

Birmingham is one of the best places for any family to visit and should be considered for your next vacation!  Consider visiting some of these free stops soon, and your kids will never realize how much money you saved on this trip!
