Preparation before Using a Softbox
Preparation is key when using a softbox, even if you’re shooting product photography. Make sure to have the right gear and settings before you start photographing your products.
When setting up your softbox, make sure to account for the distance between the light source and your subject. You’ll also want to make sure the light is hitting your subject evenly. To do this, use a divider or card to create an even lighting pattern between the subject and the light source.
If you’re using a conventional camera flash, position it so that it falls directly behind the subject. For an off-camera flash, position it at or slightly in front of the subject. When using a speedlight, position it so that its beam is pointing straight down at the subject.
Once you’ve set up your softbox, it’s time to start shooting! Remember to experiment with different settings until you find something that works best for your product photography shoot.
